SOCIAL SYSTEM AND WORK PERMITS

Affiliation to the Andorran Social Security Chest (CASS) is compulsory for all wage-earning workers and optional for non-wage earners resident in the Principality. The contribution of insured wage earners includes a charge of between 5% and 9% of their wages for the wage earner and 13% for the employer. The contribution of insured non-wage earners consists of a fixed sum reviewed annually.

The social security system covers two branches: sickness and old age (retirement), independently administered by CASS. 75% of outpatient expenses (medication and visits to doctors) are covered as well as 90% of hospital care and 100% in the case of accidents at work.

Every foreigner working in the Principality must hold a work permit. Once a local business has hired him or her, it must arrange for the relevant permit with the Ministry of the Interior. The granting of permits by the Ministry is subject to a quota.
