Passive Residency and Obtaining Andorran Nationality

PASSIVE RESIDENCY AND OBTAINING ANDORRAN NATIONALITY

A foreign individual over 18 years of age who wishes to fix his or her effective residence in the Principality without carrying out any working or professional activity must obtain a passive residency permit from the Ministry of the Interior. This permit is also subject to a quota and to the requirements set out in the Qualified law amending passive residency of 28 November 1996.

The following foreigners may acquire Andorran nationality by naturalization: those marrying Andorrans if they can prove a main, permanent, continuous residence in the Principality of at least three years and, in general, at the Government’s discretion, foreigners with a main, permanent residence in the Principality of at least twenty years at the date of application.
